SUICIDE PREVENTION

The WUCMAA Suicide Prevention Project provides awareness, education, and resources regarding suicide prevention challenges in the Hmong community. Programming is focused on understanding and eliminating cultural and societal stigmas, barriers, and obstacles to positive and active engagement in suicide prevention. The project offers resources and support to individuals, families, and providers in effectively addressing mental health issues.

Key program activities include collaboration with educational institutions such as school districts, technical colleges, and colleges to create and implement activities that facilitate culturally sensitive discussions with Hmong youth regarding mental health and suicide prevention, increased social media presence, and public service announcements to educate on suicide prevention and mental health, partnering with local and state mental health organizations to train and educate mental health professionals on culturally responsive counseling for Hmong clients, and establishing a Hmong Mental Health Council that develops and continuously improves a Hmong mental health curriculum for communities and providers.
